IDA Nurseries at Enfield

Bunnies and Teddies theme for this week has been good old fashioned nursery rhymes. The children have been decorating their sheep and singing along to Baa Baa Black Sheep.

Blue Bears had a thoroughly fantastic time on Thursday when our Monkey Music sessions begun. You simply cannot imagine how enthused they were.

Pre-school have been doing letter recognition and have been finding pairs ie matching letter cards to the magnetic letters. For numeracy this week the children have been looking at different sizes using the compare bears. The children have also had fun exploring and learning on the computer with the “Spot The Dog” game.

The Children made wonderful dragons out of junk modeling, they were simply amazing and the artistic flair is unbelievable.   Tea was really tasty, even if those noodles were slightly tricky to eat.  The children especially enjoyed their fortune cookies.

Blue Bears' wall display on Big and Small is wonderful.  They have used their imagination to display different sizes using dolls hands and feet, staffs hands and feet and of course their own.   They had great fun dipping their hands and feet in paint they found if very amusing

Please note that we are currently creating our hallway wall display.  It is based on photographs of all the staff as children, and asking parents to guess the member of staff.  We are trying to raise money for Comic Relief

All the children this week have been incredibly busy and during the cold spell created natural ice mobiles collecting natural materials in the garden.  Unfortunately Jack Frost has moved on to pastures new and we are awaiting his return so our mobiles can freeze over.

Bunnies and Teddies have been playing and experimenting with paints, glupe and have been singing songs and playing musical instruments. What musicians they will make.

Green and Yellow Bears have been learning how to wash their hands properly and after washing their hands placed their hands underneath a special Environmental Health Germ inspection machine to see what germs remained after washing their hands. They were really fascinated with what they could see and having fun learning the importance of washing hands correctly and when.

Bunnies and Teddies have been getting very messy this week, playing with flour, pasta and finger painting white paint on black paper and black paint on white paper, in line with our theme of 'opposites' for January.

The children had fun decorating some large boxes with crayons using their fine motor skills.  The children then used the boxes in role play. The simple things in life always give us more pleasures, who needs toys when you have boxes!!

The gerbils have now returned from their Christmas vacation and the children in blue bears have enjoyed getting back into their daily routine of feeding the gerbils.   Hertie and Gertie are doing well and are happy to be back.

Green bears have decided to change their role play house into a bus. The children have been busy making their own buses from junk modelling, drawing their own buses and talking about the different shapes you can see and singing "the wheels on the bus go round and round".

Yellow bears have been very busy making kites and flying them in the garden during the windy weather. The kites were extremely colourful and original and to extend this activity the children have been reading stores relating to "weather".

Living Willow Wigwam

In October we launched our Outdoor Learning School by having a wonderful Living Willow Wigwam planted in our garden for the children to explore and nurture by watering it everyday and watch how it grows. The children helped plant the wigwam by pushing down the compost at the roots with their wooden sticks.

The children in the Outdoor Learning School will be exploring nature every week by taking part in activities such as Scavenger hunts, making natural mobiles, mini beast hunts and planting and growing seeds.

Fire Brigade Visit

For the month of November and December 2011, the children at Ida Nurseries, Enfield are currently learning about people who help us.  We have been lucky enough to have a visit from Enfield fire brigade and the children really enjoyed trying on the uniform, using the water hose and sitting inside the fire engine.  The children are eagerly awaiting visits from the police and a nurse.

The children took part in raising money for Children in Need. During the week of 14th to 18th November the children participated in many fund raising activities i.e sponsored bounce, teddy bear picnic, fancy dress, back to front day, snuggle day, cake sale ending with our Christmas open day/fun day on Saturday 26th November.  This was a great success and we have raised, to date, £765.00

IDA Nurseries at High Wych

The babies are very busy this week making animals to put up in their nappy changing room. They have created a jungle with a glittery snake, a furry monkey and a lion with a multicolored maine. They have also welcomed some new friends to the nursery and helped them to settle in.

The Toddlers have been having lots of fun with their babies. They have had a nursery as their role play area and have been feeding them and changing their nappies and putting them to sleep when they are tired. Some of our Toddlers have just become big brothers and big sisters so it's good practice.

In Pre-School they have been serving their snack to each other in The Cafe. They have been charging  £500 for a slice of apple so if you visit make sure you bring lots of change. There has been lots of counting in the room this week and they have even been using their washing line to pin numbers on.

Last week we tried freezing some leaves but it didn't work very well! This week we have been freezing petals in pots and they looked really lovely. When the children go into the garden they love to look in the pots and see what has happened to the petals and water. It's been a great way to use the freezing weather to our advantage.

High Wych is a busy nursery and the following is just a few of the things that we have been doing this week.

Pre-school have been making a cafe for their role play area. They have collected lots of boxes from home to put in as tempting treats to serve each other. They also created their own noodles by painting string. Their theme this week has been about how to look after your teeth and the children have brought in their toothbrushes so that they can brush their teeth after lunch.

Toddlers have been having fun at their new creative table and have produced some beautiful works of art. They have been covering shapes, different sized pieces of paper and different colored pieces of paper with glitter and paint and tissue paper along with other glittery materials.

Babies have been loving playing the musical instruments this week and singing along. When they finish a song they all clap and start another one. They have also enjoyed playing with the shaving foam and one or two of them tried to taste it!!

In our garden this week we tried to make some ice blocks with leaves in them. We had some very interesting results and are going to try them again with something different next week.

 Posted @ 09:45 on 26th January 2012

This week we have all been very busy at High Wych and having so much fun. Here is what we have been doing:

Pre-school have been enjoying playing with their new puzzles and table top games. They have been sharing really well and taking turns nicely. This week their project was "our favorite foods" each child has painted a picture of their favorite food and we have had some of their favorite dishes for lunch and tea.

Toddlers have been enjoying sing and sign and welcoming a new friend who uses signs every day.  She has even taught us some new ones that we can add to our signing board. We have also been mixing shaving foam in the sand and squishing it to see what it feels like.

Babies have been exploring the garden now we are all walking. Some of us are still a little wobbly!! We have also been cuddling the teddies during story time in the cosy corner.

We have all been enjoying planting and sowing seeds. We started with cress and the children loved watching it grow and we also learnt how to care for seeds. Now we are planting Tomatoes, Peas, runner Beans, Sunflowers, Carrots and wild flowers in the hope that we might attract some winged and buzzy friends. They should start to pop up by March so we will keep you informed. Alan Titchmarsh would be so very proud.
