This time in a parents life can be quite challenging, having to build up the relationships with the school teachers as you have so well with our nursery team. At IDA nurseries we prepare the children for school in a number of ways:

  • The children are able to respect each other.
  • The children are able to read their own names.
  • The children will know some letters and numbers.
  • They will be able to achieve some of the early learning goals.

Preparation for school - what can you do at home:

1.      Talk to your child about your own school days and treat it as a normal development in a child's life.

2.    Children should be able to : Put on and take off coats, use the toilet and flush it properly, tidy up their crayons, open and close their school bag, put things in their school bag and use a tissue to wipe their nose.

3.    Allow your child to try to do some simple tasks independently.

4.    Encourage confidence by allowing them to dress themselves.  Praise their efforts at every opportunity.

In the first year of primary school (Reception) the Foundation Stage continues and so your child should encounter the same nature of learning and activities they were familiar with in their early years setting. The next two years of primary school are called Key Stage 1 and the next four years are known as Key Stage 2.  For each of these stages, the National Curriculum establishes which subjects are taught.

At IDA Nurseries we also endeavor to build relationships with our local schools enabling us to share positive experiences with the children and ensure transitions are smooth for both child and parent.
